How focus sessions control Do Not Disturb

A focus session in Pace silences your phone for the length of the session. Here is how that works on each platform, and where the limits are.
iOS
Pace uses the Focus filters API introduced in iOS 16. When a session starts, Pace asks the system to turn on the Focus mode you picked in Settings. iOS shows a confirmation the first time; after that it is silent.
What Pace cannot do: turn on a Focus mode you have not allowed, or change your allowed contacts.
Android
Pace asks for the Do Not Disturb permission once. During a session it sets the interruption filter to "priority only", and restores your previous filter when the session ends or you stop it.
Edge cases
If the app is killed during a session, the next launch restores your previous mode. If your phone restarts, the system clears the mode itself.
